Musical Chairs

November 25, 2012

I wrote this poem a long time ago, in the mid-80s, so almost 30 years ago.

Musical Chairs

The people with the power started setting up the chairs
They turned the music on, nice and slow
The people in the dance of life moved from chair to chair
And they moved up as far as they could go

Then the music, playing faster, turned the game into a frenzy
And the people with the power pulled away a chair
The people in the dance of life got dizzy in the frenzy
They fought amongst each other, grabbing what was there

Then the people with the power brought the music to a stop
And they watched the desperate scramble of the ones below
The game seems nearly over, but the people cannot stop
The game is life or death, as the ones in power know.
